The Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro almost always conjures up images of sun dappled beaches, bronzed bodies, boss nova music and of course ‘Carnival’ which is the week long famous party that attracts nearly two million visitors to this Brazilian paradise each year. Rio’s renowned beaches Ipanema and Leblon can be visited all year round but many tourists tend to head to Rio during the months of January-February when they can combine a beach side vacation with the grand spectacle of ‘Carnival’. Aside from ‘Carnival’, Rio de Janeiro is also currently in the news as it is scheduled to be the host city for some of the world’s greatest sporting events in the coming years, namely the Summer Olympics in 2016 and the FIFA World Cup in 2014. The city is undergoing much hectic building activity and up-gradation in order to be ready for these events and welcome the hordes of visitors that may be planning to book vacations to Rio de Janeiro.
