Budapest, the scenic capital of Hungary is often referred to as the ‘Queen of the Danube’. This city straddles both sides of the legendary river and was originally built as two separate cities, Buda and Pest, which lay on either side of the river. Today Buda and Pest form two distinct districts of Budapest, which in fact came to be established in 1873 by the way of the union of three cities- Buda, Pest and Óbuda . The Pest section of the city lies on the flat eastern shore of the river while Buda and Óbuda are located on its hillier western bank.
